How to read and use MapUs results

The MapUs results are the key to unlocking your organizations digital potential. Whether you’re looking to put together the perfect result presentation, or want some inspiration on how to use the different results and visualizations most efficiently, this guide has you covered.

The Competence wheel Main Result

This is the primary result presentation in MapUs for both individual level and report results. The rings outside of the wheel represent overall competence areas, each of which are comprised of a set of competences in the wheel. What goes in and around the wheel is ultimately up to you.

Why is it useful? 

  • It gives a quick visual overview of which competence areas are strong and which are lacking.
  • It can update in real time and be used in live workshop settings.
  • A lot of information about the individual competences can be accessed from this page alone.

Competence scores and distribution

The report page Competence overview lists the total average score on all competences, including ones not shown in the wheel, like personas or learning domains.

To the right, it shows the distribution of users on the different taxonomy levels based on their scores on the corresponding competence.

Why is it useful?

  • It gathers the results on all competences you’ve created, including non-primary ones (e.g. personas) on one page. 
  • Seeing the description of each competence listed together can be helpful in understanding differences between them.
  • The distribution of users on the taxonomy levels helps to illustrate how you might want to differentiate your efforts to improve your groups’ abilities.  
  • The distribution chart includes descriptions of each taxonomy level, clarifying what the scores say about the users actual abilities related to each competence.

Individual user score

This report page shows a chart of each individual user’s total score. It is possible to zoom in on a specific section of the chart. 

Furthermore, each dot represents an individual result, and if you click on one, you’ll be taken to the individual result page of that individual.

Why is it useful?

  • It shows the full distribution of users on their total scores, giving you a simple overview of how digitally competent users in your organization are. 
  • If you have many users in your survey, the zoom function makes it easy for you to create segments and identify potential digital ambassadors. 
  • It allows you to look at individual results, which can be useful if you plan on creating individualized development plans.

Question Scores

This report page is a chart displaying your groups average score on each of the questions in your survey. 

In the default display, the questions are ranked from highest to lowest score and are color coordinated as such. 

It is possible to zoom in on a specific section of the chart. Each bar represents a question, and if you click on one, you access a detailed analysis of the score response distribution on the given question.

Why is it useful?

  • It provides a clear overview of the users (self)confidence in the different areas measured, which is important when deciding where to target subsequent efforts to improve.  
  • Especially helpful if you have a survey where you measure fewer competences, and more focus on individual questions. 
  • It lets you isolate and analyze specific questions of interest.
  • If the average score on a question is significantly lower or higher than the rest, which might hint a need for revising your questionnaire.

Pivot table

This report page allows you to analyze and cross-tabulate the questions in your survey in a pivot table, which you may be familiar with from Excel or similar software. 

You can either analyze the distribution of responses to a single question or cross-tabulate two questions together. Cross-tabulation shows the proportion of respondents who have chosen a particular combination of response options on two different questions. 

Why is it useful?

  • Is especially helpful when analyzing your filter question, both by themselves or in combination with other questions. 
  • It can hint at potential correlations between questions.
  • Is easy to convert to classic statistical analysis in other software.

MapUs Export Key Figures

Export key figures

This report page lets you export the key results in your survey to Excel. As illustrated on the page, the file will be a table showing the title, description and the average score on all competencies and questions. 

Why is it useful

  • If you want to create your own visualization of the results, this allows you to export the data. 
  • Being able to edit the figures in Excel might be useful if you want to highlight and comment things, for example in preparation for meetings or presentations.
